The Adventure of the Dancing Men is a short story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. In the story, Sherlock Holmes receives a message encoded in stick figures. He has to decipher the code to solve the mystery. This painting is a word square encoded with the same stick figures (+ 1). Each four letter word in the square reads the same horizontally and vertically.
